1. Can I get a paper application sent to me?
No, we only accept online applications. The application is available at www.gse.buffalo.edu/apply
2. What if I forgot my user name and password for the online application?
On the application login page click in the link that says "click here if you forgot your password". You will then be asked to enter your email address and your password will be emailed to you. The email address you enter must match the email address on your application form. 3. Do I need to submit GRE or MAT test scores?
Not all programs require test scores. Check the requirements for your specific program to see if you need to take the exam and have the results sent to UB. The program listings and their requirements can be found at the 'Apply Online' page
4. Do I need to submit TOEFL scores?
Command of the English language is essential for successful graduate study. If English is not the student's first language, he/she is required to demonstrate English proficiency before admission to a program. This requirement is usually met by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum score for admission varied by program. If the TOEFL score falls below the program minimum, the student may have to attend a summer intensive English language program or a full fall or spring semester program. Detailed information on the TOEFL, as well as exceptions to the requirement, are included with the application information for international applicants.

Application deadlines are different for each program. Check the information for your specific program to find out when the deadlines are. Some programs only admit students to begin study in the fall semester.
9. Do I need to send transcripts to UB with my application?
Yes, you must send official transcripts form all institutions you have previously attended. These should be sent directly from those institutions. This may take time so we encourage you to request them as soon as possible.
10. How do I have official transcripts sent to UB?
You must contact the registrar of each college or university that you have attended and ask them to send official transcripts to UB.

12. What should I include in my statement of career objectives?
Your statement of career objectives should be a detailed statement of your career objectives and plans. It should say how the degree program you are applying for will help you achieve those objectives and plans.
13. Do I need to submit an essay in addition to my statement of career objectives?
When you are completing the online application an area for the essay will appear if it is required for your program. An essay topic or question will also appear that is specific to your program. If the essay section is there then your program requires both a statement of career objectives and an essay.
14. How can I pay my application fee?
You can pay your application fee by credit card as part of the online application or you can pay it by mail. All fees must be in US funds and payable to the University at Buffalo. Application fees are non-refundable. The application fee is $50.00.
15. When will I find out if I have been accepted?
If the program you are applying to has an application deadline you should receive a decision within 6-8 weeks after that deadline. If your program has a rolling admission process you should receive a decision within 6-8 weeks after your application is complete. An application is complete once it had been submitted on line and once all supporting documentation (transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation) has been received by the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Once you apply and are admitted to UB, UB will issue an I-20 form to you. The I-20 form is the Certificate of Visa Eligibility form that you will need to apply for an F-1 student visa. 30. What are the requirements for admissions?
To apply for admission, prospective students should complete an online application, making sure to indicate the degree or certification program for which they are applying. A nonrefundable fee must accompany the application in order for it to be processed. Prospective students may apply to one program only in the school, and should arrange with all the institutions of higher learning that they have attended to provide the department with official copies of their transcripts. Certain programs may also require test scores or other information. All credentials must be received before the deadline specified by the department. When all records are complete and the application has been reviewed, the department will notify applicants whether or not they have been accepted. Admission decisions are not based on any one test or criterion but rather on a combination of measures.

In general, evidence of a completed undergraduate bachelors degree is required before you can be admitted to any graduate program.
