Four Steps to Employment as a Public Librarian

1. Obtain a Master of Library Science degree from an accredited library school

2. Obtain a New York State Public Librarian's Professional Certificate

3. Make application to Civil Service Commission to take Librarian Examination

All full-time Librarian positions are filled from civil service eligibility lists. These lists are comprised of names of people who have taken and passed the examination for Librarian.
