General Application Info
Teacher Certification/Masters Programs in LAI
To qualify for admission to any of the programs in the Department
of Learning and Instruction, students must submit the following:
1. Complete online
application.
2. Official undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from all
post secondary institutions attended (UB transcripts may be
unofficial).
3. A $50 non-refundable application fee, either by check or
electronically along with the online application.
4. International applicants must submit a TOEFL score; a Test
of Written English (TWE) score is required for foreign and second
language education programs.
5. Some programs have special requirements (e.g., examination
for secondary mathematics education applicants; academic and/or
professional references for foreign and second language education
programs).
Applications will be reviewed only when all of the above have
been submitted.
Ed.D. and Ph.D. Programs in LAI
To qualify for admission to any of the doctoral programs in the
Department of Learning and Instruction, students must submit the
following:
1. Complete online
application.
2. Official undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from all post
secondary institutions attended
3. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
scores.*
4. Statement of career goals and objectives.
5. Resume or curriculum vitae.
6. Two academic or professional references.
7. Admission interview.
8. Entrance examination for mathematics education program.
9. Sample of academic writing (e.g., master's thesis, professional
publication).
10. A $50 non-refundable application fee, either by check or electronically
along with the online application.
* Special Education Ph.D. applicants may submit GRE scores only;
international applicants to the Ph.D. program in foreign and second
language education must submit scores from the GRE and the Test
of Written English (TWE) in addition to the TOEFL.

Spring Semester November 15 of the preceding calendar year
International Applications
Fall Semester February 1 of the same calendar year
Spring Semester June 1 of the preceding calendar year
* Most LAI Programs admit students for either the fall or the spring semester; however, initial certification programs only accept applications for the fall.
