General Education via Distance Learning

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This list has been developed over several years of running the program. We will continue to update this list as questions come in.

1. How many credits must I take?

You need to complete 33 credit hours. This includes 10 courses plus a master's project that you complete at the end of the program.

2. How many courses do I need to take each semester?

To complete your degree within two years, you need to take two courses each semester. If you register for less than two courses per semester, we cannot guarantee that you will graduate from the program without ever coming to campus.

3. Is it possible to transfer graduate credit into the program?

Yes, you may transfer up to six hours of graduate course work pending approval. A minimum grade of "B" is required. Transfer credits are formally assessed mid-way through the program when you apply for degree candidacy in the program.

4. I have questions about financial aid, student loans and deferments, who do I contact?

The Student Response Center at 1-866-838-7257 or src.buffalo.edu.

The distance learning coordinator is not trained to answer these questions, however, the University at Buffalo has a large staff of highly trained professionals specializing in financial aid and student loans. Please contact the Student Response Center at 1-866-838-7257 or src.buffalo.edu for all financial questions.

5. When do I need to pay for the classes?

For all student services needs/questions you need to contact the Student Response Center directly at 1-866-838-7257. You are a matriculated graduate student attending graduate school part-time. The fact that you are taking courses off campus does not affect the answers to any of your questions, use their toll free number or visit their website at: src.buffalo.edu.
