Summer Study - Sample Degree Plan / Timeline

Completing the degree as scheduled in this sample plan will require that admission is approved before classes begin, all course work is completed on time, and that a GPA of 3.0 or higher is maintained as stipulated in the UB Graduate Bulletin. This schedule is illustrative, but realistic. It may be necessary to adjust the timing of specific courses within this schedule. Special permission is required to take over 9 semester hours in summer terms. Be sure to register early: course starting dates vary and some courses fill up quickly.

Summer A:

  • Foundations:
    CEP 501 Psychological Foundations of Education (3 credits)
  • Major Area Electives:
    2 electives in Music Education (6 credits)
  • Music Electives:
    1 course selected according to interests of the student with approval of the advisor (e.g. Music History, Music Theory, Performance, Musical Theater, Composition) (3 credits)

Semester 1 (Fall)

  • Research:
    Intro to Research in Music Education (3 credits)

Semester 2 (Spring)

  • Major Area:
    Measurement and Evaluation in Music (3 credits)

Summer B:

  • Music Education:
    Foundations of Music Education (3 credits)
  • Music Electives:
    2 electives in Music selected according to interests of the student with approval of the advisor (6 credits)

Semester 3 (Fall)

  • Research:
    Project or Thesis (3 credits)
