Application Requirements for ELP Programs

Applications are online. All sections of the application must be completed before submission electronically. The application cannot be revised after it has been submitted.


DOMESTIC APPLICANTS


I   Advanced Certificate in School Business and Human Resource Administration

Eligibility

Students enrolled in GSE masters, certification or doctoral programs, and other students possessing a bachelor's degree in a pertinent field are eligible.

Application Process

Potential students will be selected on the basis of compatibility between their goals and the coursework offered in the program. Students will also have to demonstrate sufficient verbal and written English proficiency to participate meaningfully in graduate level lectures and seminars. Please note that the deadline for fall admission is March 1.

Students currently enrolled in a graduate program at UB must submit a paper application for review.

In addition to the online application, students must also submit the following by March 1:

  • Application fee of $50 US, either by check or electronically along with the online application.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended.
  • Three recommendation letters.

II   LIFTS Program

Eligibility
  1. Candidates are required to hold a baccalaureate and Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or from an institution authorized by the Board of Regents to confer degrees.
  2. Candidates are required to possess a permanent or professional certificate in the classroom teaching service or pupil personnel service. By exception, and subject to clarification in the Commissioner's Regulations, candidates will be considered for admission to the program if they can demonstrate the potential for instructional leadership based upon prior experiences assessed against criteria established by ELP.
  3. In addition, candidates will be required to demonstrate their potential to become educational leaders possessing New York State's nine essential characteristics of effective leaders as a result of their prior experiences, including experiences as a teacher, administrator, or pupil personnel service provider, by means of transcripts, writing sample, recommendation letter and an interview.
Application Process

To be reviewed for admission to the program, applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed online application.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  • A writing sample at least 10 pages long.
  • Three letters of recommendation (one academic and two professional).
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended.
  • $50.00 nonrefundable application fee either by check or electronically along with the online application.

Successful applicants will be invited to an interview with two Educational Administration faculty members and a graduate of the program who is a practicing district administrator.

III   Master's Programs, including Educational Administration, Higher Education, Higher Education with a concentration in Student Affairs and General Education

To be reviewed for admission to the program, applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed online application.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three letters of recommendation (two academic and one professional).
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended.
  • $50.00 nonrefundable application fee either by check or electronically along with the online application.

Applicants to the Higher Education Student Affairs concentration will need to submit their resume, and expect to participate in an interview with the Admissions Committee.

IV   Doctoral Programs, including the Ph.D. programs in Educational Administration, Higher Education, and Social Foundations; Ed.D. in Educational Administration

To qualify for admission to any of the doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, students must submit the following:

  • Complete online application.
  • Official undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores. Tests should have been taken within the last five years.
  • Statement of career goals and objectives.
  • Three letters of recommendation (one academic and two professional).
  • Sample of academic writing (at least 10 pages long).
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee, either by check or electronically along with the online application.

To be admitted to the Ed.D. program, a person must hold certification from some State as a school administrator and have completed an approved 33-36 hour approved program leading to a State Administration Certificate. The work specified in the Doctor of Education program is built upon these prerequisites.

Applicants should expect to participate in an interview with the Admissions Committee.


INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS


In addition to the requirements noted above, international applicants should submit the following:

  • TOEFL score report (must not be more than two years old from the time you begin classes) with a minimum of 213 for a computer based test, 550 for a paper based test and 79 Internet based test.
  • A copy of your passport biographical page.
  • All letters of recommendation must be on official letterhead and should be placed in letterhead envelopes with the signature across the seal of the envelope.
  • Financial documentation totaling $22,000; international graduate applicants must document their ability to pay for all costs incurred while studying in the U.S. All financial forms and supporting documentation must be originals with original signatures, and must be dated within one year of the time the applicant intends to enroll at UB. No action will be taken on dossiers of applicants who indicate no financial support.
  • The International Financial Form located at http://wings.buffalo.edu/intled/admissions/forms.
  • An official bank statement translated into U.S. dollars.
