Program Outcomes

In order to facilitate informed decision-making, the following information is provided.

Time to Completion

For the past seven years, the average time to completion for our program was 5 years.

Costs

For the past seven years, every student who has sought funding (graduate assistantship, research assistantship, and minority fellowship) has received a tuition waiver and a yearly stipend ($9,000 - $10,000) for the first 2 years of study. During advanced studies (3rd- 4th year of program), students are funded through a variety of sources including university research assistantships and part-time positions with research agencies or treatment programs. As a result, most students receive funding throughout their four years of study. This, however, is not guaranteed. Finally, students are responsible for paying their own university fees (approximately $400 per semester).

Internships

For the last seven years:
  • 100% (N = 65) of internship applicants received internship placements.
  • 98% (64 out of 65) obtained paid internships.
  • 89% (58 out of 65) obtained APPIC member internships. Internship sites that were not APPIC members included school districts and a university research/treatment center.
  • 88% (55 out of 65) obtained APA accredited internships. Of students who sought APA accredited internships, only one was unable to obtain such a placement. This student elected to complete an APPIC member internship.
  • Over the 5 students who completed internships in school districts that were not APA accredited, 100% conformed to CDSPP guidelines (Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs).
  • No student completed a two year half-time internship.

Attrition

Of all students who were enrolled in any coursework, internship, or dissertation credits over the last seven years, only three students (2%) failed to complete the program. Of these three students, one elected to transfer to the Counselor Education program, one was terminated for lack of timely completion of the dissertation, and one was terminated from the program because of mental health issues.

Licensure

Of the students who graduated from the program between 1996-2004, 94% have become licensed psychologists. Because a year of post-doctoral experience is required for licensure, students who graduated from the program in 2005 or later are not yet eligible.
