Master's of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling
The Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology (CSEP) offers a fully accredited Master's of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling. The degree meets the requirements for license as a mental health counselor in NY State (for more information on the law and licensure requirements go to the NY State Office of Professions website).
The program stresses the development of counseling knowledge and skills that are supported by research and other empirical evidence. Coursework and internship cover such areas as human growth and development, social and cultural foundations of mental health counseling, counseling theory and practice, psychopathology, group dynamics, lifestyle and career development, assessment, research, ethics, and consultation.
