April 9, 2008 Joint Events with UB ALA In the past, SLA and ALA have held joint events. The two student groups would like to do this again in the future. Our first combo event will most likely be a picnic for new students in the MLS program. This event is expected to be held at the end of August. Volunteer Project A little while ago, we had discussed the possibility of volunteering to help out a local nonprofit library. Clare will be contacting organizations and we’ll see if something pops up! This project will take place at some point over the summer. Once we have a project lined up, e-mails will be sent out so that people can volunteer to help out with the project. “Everything but the Kitchen Sink” Our next event, which will be held at the end of May, will be a panel discussion with a handful of special librarians from the area. Karen will be recruiting professional librarians to speak at this event. We hope to have librarians who are diverse in terms of their skills, subject expertise, and employment setting. Toronto Day Trip At some point over the summer, the UB SLA group would like to travel to Toronto to visit a few of the special libraries in this beautiful city! We would also involve the Information Science department at the University of Toronto so that we can make this an international, inter-cooperative, and educational experience for everyone.

Our next meeting date has not been established at this time. The group recently came together for the “Everything but the Kitchen Sink” event. Our next group event will be the day trip to Toronto. We hope to take this trip at some point during the summer break. There is a very good chance that the group will get together for a meeting during the month of June. Once we establish the next meeting date we will post it here on our website, so keep checking back! |

Come to Our Next Meeting! |

Did You Know…Our past few meetings have been held at places such as Spot Coffee and Duffs, rather than on campus. We enjoy getting off campus and turning our meetings into social events! |
