LIS GSA Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the Graduate Student Association of the Department of Library and Information Science is to:

1. Encourage a rich and rewarding student life for its members both academically and socially either through our own initiative or by supporting other organizations within the field of library science. This is achieved:

Academically: Through workshops, field trips, professional development opportunities, and financial support for conference attendance.

Socially: Through parties, service activities and other sponsored events which provide the chance to network with those who will be our professional peers.

2. Give voice to issues that are of concern to its members, bringing these ideas or matters before the appropriate person or persons, be they faculty or UB staff. The DLIS GSA will represent library students in such forums as meetings of the GSA Senate and LIS Council.
