Keith Hughes Keith, a dynamic and energetic educator, is an award-winning Social Studies teacher in BPS at McKinley High School who was featured in WNED’s documentary “Beyond the Blackboard.” He believes “…as an educator my job is to facilitate their journey to self sufficiency and academic success.” Whether it is a dynamic lecture, a student-produced video project or writing a research paper, when a student can be convinced to devote their attention to a task the possibilities become endless. Join Keith for this exciting professional development series focused on tools to help reach and understand the millennial generation.

Using iMovie in the Classroom
What is iMovie? How can you use/manage iMovie in the classroom? How do you setup/assess a video-based assignment? Participants will have a brief introduction to Apple’s iMovie software. We will look at sample student videos and the assignments from which they resulted. We will explore how to successfully set the stage for using video in an assignment and how to assess student work.

Using Blogs in the Classroom
What are blogs? How do you use blogs in the classroom? How can I setup a free blog? What blog software exists and how does it compare? This session will introduce participants to the concept of a blog, an online web log and/or journal. We will look at a free service for creating and maintaining your own blog. We will also explore classroom applications for blogging and discuss how those assignments can be managed via an aggregator.

What is an RSS feed aggregator? How do I set it up? How do I use Bloglines to manage student work assignments? I want to use blogging in my class, but I don't know if I have time to visit every blog. If these are your thoughts, this session is for you! We will look at an RSS feed aggregator that pulls all new postings from the blogs you are subscribed to so that you can view (comment, flag, email) them on one site. A must for Web 2.0 faculty.

What is streaming video? How can you use streaming video to enhance instruction? How do you find streaming video resources? How do you use them effectively in the classroom? A demonstration of how to use streaming video in the classroom.

What is Gliffy? How can students use Gliffy in the classroom? Learn how to create and share diagrams online. (Gliffy is like Inspiration software but available online.)
