  His research interests focus on school-site leadership, teacher compensation, and educational reform. He is currently co-editor of Leadership and Policy in Schools, and co-director of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Center for School-site Leadership. In 1999-2000, he was President of the American Education Finance Association and was the recipient of the 1994 Jack A. Culbertson Award, presented annually by the UCEA to the outstanding junior professor in educational administration in recognition of his contributions to the field.
