Soonghee Han completed his Ph.D. in 1996 in the Comparative and Global Studies in Education Program under the academic guidance of Dr. Philip Altbach. He is now an Assistant Professor of Education at Seoul National University, teaching graduate level courses in social movements and education, adult learning theory, lifelong learning, and global perspectives in adult education.
His major research interests focus on global studies in adult education movements and their relationship with modern cultural studies, literacy and learning ecology. He is also involved in several national research projects including writing a "Lifelong Education Law" and constructing a Korean Education Statistics System.
Last year, the sudden financial crisis and IMF intervention in Korea stimulated him to write about structural adjustment and education in Korean context. Recently, he participated in an international cooperation project with the Asian and South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education. The Bureau is building an electronic data exchange network on adult education in Asia.
